Vichy (Frankreich)

Unsere Französisch-Fortbildung mit Kulturerlebnis

After a two year wait due to the Corona pandemic, Kristin Kolbe and Ruth Gramann travelled to Vichy to attend an intensive two-week C2 French course at the Cavillam Centre as part of the Erasmus programme.  The course was a good reminder of how exhausting sitting behind a desk for a whole day can be, but it was also wonderful for them to be immersed in the French language again.

As part of the course, they went on a trip to Clermont Ferrand where they did a scavenger hunt and found out some more about this university town which was the starting place of the First Crusade (1096 – 1099) under the direction of Pope Urban II.  The black, volcanic rock of the cathedral was chilling, especially on entering the cathedral, where one was engulfed in darkness.

It was also fascinating to find out more about Vichy which had been the capital of the collaborative French government during the Nazi occupation of France. Vichy was chosen as the capital because of it being a spa town with 250 hotels which could host government officials and also because of its up-to-date telephone system.

They thoroughly enjoyed their stay and came back to Potsdam inspired and refreshed!
